Tourism Gramado and Canela: mountain Brazil

The international image of "tropical country"-sun, beach, jungle-Brazilian hides other stunning landscapes that extend far offshore. One of these is the Sierra Gaucha landscapes in southern Brazil, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Might surprise you to know that Brazil has lovely mountain villages of traditional European style, where the summers are hot and winters cold. ¿Cold in Brazil? Surprised? Yes, there are also tourist destinations "winter" in Brazil. Here we present: Gramado and Canela.

These two cities are among valleys, forests, waterfalls and mountains, only 120 kilometers from Porto Alegre. The distance of just 8 km between them causes them to take them as a single tourist destination: visitors usually stay in one of them and do tours and excursions in the other. Moreover, both share a common and wonderful natural setting, full of adventures and activities for those who love ecotourism and adrenaline.

But it's not just the incredible nature of the mountains which makes unique Canela and Gramado. Much of its charm comes from its typical style of European settlement, with picturesque mountain architecture and very different cultural and gastronomic traditions to Brazilian carioca imagination to which we are accustomed. They are cities with excellent tourist infrastructure, but without the frenetic bustle of big cities. In short, places to relax and get away from it all without giving up the comforts of hotels, restaurants, cafes, museums and upscale shopping.

Contrary to the most popular Brazilian destinations, high season in Gramado and Canela takes place in the colder months, from April to September. Brazilians living in hot regions love cool temperatures the south, so winter is a favorite of tourists to visit the Sierra month when both locations take all the charm of mountain villages. However, also in spring and summer you can fully enjoy the mountain life, taking advantage of falling prices during the offseason.

The Quilombo Valley, the vineyards of Caxias do Sul, the barrel of Itaimbezinho, the Black Lake, the Caracol waterfall, Parque da Floresta Encantada Ferradura and are some of the sites you can not miss when traveling to Gramado and Canela. If you get the chance, do not hesitate to rent a car and go at your leisure these scenic byways. But if you prefer the guidance of expert guides, you will find many ecotourism operators and adventure that will make you discover the most amazing places in the mountains.
